Chef Daniel Orr, Podcast/Radio Host
Chef Daniel Orr draws from a lifelong curiosity about individual ingredients combined with extensive training in the art of finding food’s true essence and flavor. The result is simple, yet sophisticated; the best of American food tempered by classic European training. He calls his cuisine “real food for real people.” He is dedicated to producing these wonderful dishes with local ingredients and in as green an environment as possible.
Daniel spent his childhood in Columbus, Indiana, where his parents were serious food lovers. His first summer job in the town’s only fine dining restaurant eventually led him to Johnson & Wales University where he graduated with a bachelors degree in restaurant management.
Orr headed abroad and worked at some of the top restaurants in France, before returning home and settling in at New York’s famed French restaurant, La Grenouille. In 1999, Sir Terence Conran asked Orr to become the executive chef of his first U.S. restaurant: Guastavino’s in New York City. Here Orr was able to experiment and blend all of his training to create menus that defined his signature style. In 2004 he was invited to become the executive chef of the CuisinArt Resort & Spa in Anguilla BWI, where he created a healthy cuisine that was a perfect match for the beauty of Anguilla beaches.
Orr is now the chef/owner of FARMbloomington, a multi-faceted culinary complex consisting of a restaurant, market, bar, and music venue. The menu focus is on local fresh ingredients and the fusion of island cuisine and Midwest American cooking. It is the culmination of chef Orr’s entire culinary career, from his parents’ kitchen in Columbus, to the CuisinArt Resort & Spa in Anguilla.
Annie Corrigan, Co-host and Producer
Born in Bowling Green, Ohio, Annie Corrigan moved to Bloomington, Indiana six years ago to pursue degrees in oboe performance. She balances her announcing and producing responsibilities at WFIU Public Radio with her performing schedule around south-central Indiana. As a result, she often takes naps and eats leftovers. While she does not consider herself a cook even in the slightest, she might eventually get there thanks to everything she’s picked up while working on Earth Eats. To fulfill a New Year’s resolution, she recently became a member of her local co-op. It’s about time.
Megan Meyer, News Correspondent and Blogger
Megan Meyer spent most of her formative years around foodies. She spent all of her teens working at her town’s natural food co-op in South Dakota, and later when she moved to Minneapolis, worked as a produce maven for the nation’s longest running collectively-managed food co-op. In 2006, she had the distinct pleasure (and pain) of participating the vendanges, or grape harvest, in the Beaujolais terroire of France, where she developed her compulsion to snip off grape clusters wherever they may hang. In the spring of 2008, Megan interned on NPR’s Science Desk in Washington, D.C., where she aided in the coverage of science, health and food policy stories. She joined Indiana Public Media in June, 2009.
Emily Shelton, Web Producer and Blogger
A native of Evansville, Indiana, Emily Shelton moved to Bloomington in the fall of 2007 to attend Indiana University, pursuing a major in Telecommunications and a minor in Business. Emily began interning at WFIU in the fall of 2008 and is now an Assistant Web Producer. As an official Earth Eats “tweeter”, Emily loves spreading the word about the importance of environmental issues and “going green”. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, writing, and looking at pictures of delicious meals that she’ll only ever dream about.
