A Place For Film - Film Noir With Will Scheibel

Humphrey Bogart in The Maltese Falcon

Episode 87 - Discussing Film Noir With Will Scheibel

On this week's episode, we're talking with Communication And Culture Grad Student Will Scheibel, who is teaching a class on Film Noir, and how the Noir style exists in many parts of the culture. We talk about a lot of different films in this episode but somehow we all totally forget to mention The Third Man.

First off, though, we cover What Have You Seen Lately, with Jason discussing the Human Centipede films, and Andy discussing 12 Angry Men and Island of Lost Souls.

We then get into our discussion of Film Noir. Will explains his reasoning for the focus of his class, some of the films he's showing, and we get into a wide-ranging discussion of how directors with many different styles did their own take on the Noir genre. We also discuss how the class defines Noir and whether it can be defined at all. It's an in-depth discussion, and we hope you enjoy. Don't forget to check out the video version of the podcast, which this week includes two parts. Let us know what you think of the new format on the videos themselves. Enjoy!
