Considering that “Avengers: Endgame” is continuing to make all of the money, it’s fair to assume the hype around the comic books that inspired it is swelling up as well.
So for many people who dig out a box of old comics from their attic during spring cleaning, it may feel like a big break. Comics are a collector’s item, right?
Not exactly.
For a couple decades now, comic book collecting has had a reputation for being a highly lucrative hobby, mostly thanks to stories of old, Golden Age comics like Action Comics #1 (the first appearance of Superman) selling for millions of dollars.
That reputation has been hard to shake, despite most comic books not being worth any money at all.
We took a trip to Bloomington’s Vintage Phoenix Comic Books and spoke with the store’s owner, Matt Traughber, about why classic comics are valuable and why modern comics are far from your next windfall. You can check out our conversation in the video above.
