In November when our gardens are completely bereft of flowers, it seems such a long wait until they reappear in the spring.
In this season, we need to look for beautiful tree trunks and branches, as they are now revealed when the leaves are gone. Aristotle said, "In all things of nature there is something marvelous." We might also note that different views of nature present themselves when lush and glamorous summer growth is past.
John Muir wrote, "Nature is ever at work, building and pulling down, creating and destroying, keeping everything whirling and flowing, allowing no rest, but in rhythmical motion, chasing everything in endless song out of one beautiful form into another." Muir's words motivate us to look for more subtle beauty around us now-shapes, forms, shadows, angles-muted wonders without the vivid colors and perfumes of summer, but scenes that are wondrous all the same.
Though we miss the flowers of spring, summer and fall there are still wonders to behold in the landscape. Albert Einstein said, "Look deep, deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better."
