As the holidays approach, we may wonder what to buy for the gardeners in our lives. A gift certificate to a nursery is always a good choice, of course. Plants cost more than they used to, so be sure to make the amount larger than in past days if you go that route.

And if you can find a good quote in a book of quotations, you can score many points with only one choice flower. For example, one perfect rose accompanied by this quote from George Sand, "There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved."

Elizabeth Barrett Browning also provided us with a useful quotation, "How do I love you, let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach." If appropriate, an addendum such as "and I promise to do a better job of loading the dishwasher" can also be added to quotations.

If you are looking for a sweet gift for a loved one or friend, check out antique stores and thrift shops for miniature vases or cute tiny bottles. Snip a piece of holly or spray a leaf or two with gold paint, and pop it and a tiny flower or two into the small vase to create a sweet offering.

And remember whenever you present flowers as a gift, always murmur, “these reminded me of you, as they are so lovely… ( or perfect, or pretty, etc).

This is Moya Andrews, and today we focused on holiday remembrances.
