Singer and guitarist-pianist Melody Gardot's new CD, My One And Only Thrill, is a modern-day evocation of the 1950s late-night heartbreak-and-romance, torch-song-mood albums of Frank Sinatra and Julie London.
Beyond the "if you loved those you'll like this" comparisons, however, she's got a strikingly original voice and sound. Gardot wrote all but one of the songs herself, and they're wrapped in gorgeously subdued strings arranged by Vince Mendoza, with production by Joni Mitchell and Madeleine Peyroux collaborator Larry Klein.
On this program we'll also hear music from a previously unreleased Frank Sinatra concert (Live at the Meadowlands 1986), a new anthology of singer Tony Bennett and pianist Bill Evans' classic 1970s duets, and recent releases from Madeleine Peyroux and Kendra Shank.
