When you think of a "singer-songwriter," you might imagine someone like Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, or some other acoustic-guitar-wielding folk singer. But many jazz artists are equally fit to have that title, having written and performed their own songs. On this show, we'll look at a number of singers performing songs that they themselves wrote. We'll highlight a couple of old favorites, like Hoagy Carmichael, Johnny Mercer, and Mel Tormé, and we'll also hear from a few newer stars, like Madeleine Peyroux and Gregory Porter.
