This week on Afterglow we inaugurate a new annual tradition with "The Hoagy Carmichael Songbook."
Hoagy Carmichael was born in Bloomington, Indiana on November 22, 1899; with his birthday so close to Thanksgiving, we'll devote the Friday show after the holiday entirely to his music every year on Afterglow.
This year's inaugural Hoagy broadcast will include recordings of Carmichael's music from Anita O'Day, Lou Rawls, Bob Brookmeyer, Susannah McCorkle, Al Cobine, Art Pepper, and Bix Beiderbecke, in addition to the rarely-heard 1958 Carmichael LP Music by Hoagy Carmichael , the last full-length album that Hoagy ever recorded.
You can learn more about Carmichael and listen to a previous WFIU documentary about him on Afterglow 's Hoagy page .
