Science Historian Naomi Oreskes

Naomi Oreskes, smiling, wearing glasses, in a blue shirt, black jacket, long scarf

Many of us have an image of science as a solitary activity. . . . But that picture of science is really misleading. Almost no one works alone in science today.

Naomi Oreskes's research focuses on studies of geophysics, environmental issues such as global warming, and the history of science.

Her opinion pieces have appeared in The Washington Post, Nature, Science, and elsewhere. She has worked as a consultant for the United States Environmental Protection Agency and U.S National Academy of Sciences.

Her books include Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco to Global Warming, co-written with Erik M. Conway.
