Poet Richard Newman

In his poems Richard Newman applies his unique brand of savage humor and laconic aplomb to the perils of Midwestern manhood-from lost love to found romance, to coming of age and fatherhood.

Raised in southern Indiana, Newman teaches at Washington University and St. Louis Community College. He also reviews books for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and has for the last decade served as editor of the literary journal River Styx.

His first full-length collection of poems, "Borrowed Towns" was named one of Kansas City Star's 100 noteworthy books of 2005. His poems have been featured on The Writer's Almanac, and his poem "Briefcase of Sorrow" was included in "The Best Poetry 2006."
