Noon Edition

Retired Army Colonel Jill Morgenthaler

Uncle Sam wanted me, but the men didn't. I always had to hold my ground, fight to do my job. It's amazing how many people just wanted me to go sit in a corner.

Jill Morgenthaler served in the United States Army for nearly three decades.

She was responsible for press duties in Iraq, has worked in command centers in Korea, Berlin, and Bosnia, and handled disaster recovery during the San Francisco earthquake of 1989 and evacuation operations for Kosovar refugees.

She was the first female company commander in the Army Security Agency Group Korea; the first woman brigade commander in the 84th Division; and the first woman to direct Illinois Homeland Security.

She now heads CJMI, a company that works with local governments to ensure safety in the event of natural or manmade disasters.
