Frank Diaz

Frank Diaz is associate professor of music education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he is a co-director of the Music and Mind Lab. He’s also a trombonist and a conductor, with degrees in Music Education and Conducting from the University of South Florida, and Florida State University. Frank previously held teaching positions at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, The University of Oregon, and school districts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Diaz maintains an active schedule as a performer, conductor, adjudicator, and clinician, and appears regularly as a guest speaker for arts organizations, educational institutions, and civic groups across the United States.

Along with his work as an educator and conductor, Diaz is an active researcher on topics such as mindfulness in arts education, contemplative science, and teacher wellness. His research is published in prominent peer-reviewed journals, and he currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Research in Music Education.

Frank Diaz has been a devoted meditator for over 25 years and is an authorized lay teacher in the Soto Zen tradition. He is the founder and current resident teacher at Open Mind Zen Bloomington.
