Noon Edition

Conductor David Effron

I was a nonconformist. I was one who marched to my own drummer, much to the dismay of a number of people—colleagues, even my parents. I still march to my own drummer, but I think I’m playing a much more intelligent tune than I did when I was young.

David Effron's fifty-year career has included appearances with major symphony orchestras and opera companies around the world.

Maestro Effron was on the conducting staff of the New York City opera, head of the Brevard Music Center, and before coming to Indiana University, was in charge of the orchestral program at the Eastman School of Music.

His discography includes a Grammy award-winning recording of Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, Benita Valente in recital, and Corigliano’s Pied Piper Fantasy with James Galway.
