Author and Journalist Michael Shelden

I'm a student of resiliency. I'm interested in what it is that makes people resilient. Why do they recover from the various blows that life delivers?

Michael Shelden is the author of Mark Twain: Man in White, Orwell: the Authorized Biography, Graham Greene: The Enemy Within, and Friends of Promise: Cyril Connolly and the World of Horizon.

His essays and reviews have appeared in a wide variety of journals and periodicals, including the Times Literary Supplement.

For ten years he was a fiction critic for The Baltimore Sun, and as a features writer for The Telegraph (London), he wrote articles on notable figures in film, literature, and public affairs.

An IU graduate, he is professor of English at Indiana State University.
