"Obsidian" By Thomas Hastings

"Cooking is alchemy. It is turning dross into gold through the application of heat. Without heat, there is no magic. And chefs want to be magicians more than anything else."

-Stuart Stevens, Feeding Frenzy

Thomas Hastings, a poet-in-the-schools for the Royal Scottish Arts Council and the Indiana Arts Commission, created the Indianapolis Broadsheet and co-founded the Indianapolis Writers Center. His poetry has appeared in numerous small press publications and he has taught language arts, gender psychology and theatrical magic at Harmony High School in Bloomington, Indiana since 1978.
