Indiana University’s Bloomington faculty declared no confidence in President Pamela Whitten, Provost Rahul Shrivastav and Vice Provost Faculty and Academic Affairs Carrie Docherty at a meeting hosted by Bloomington Faculty Council Tuesday.
Faculty cannot remove a leader from the university, but the vote is a significant marker of internal opinion.

The petition to hold the vote said current IU administration is encroaching on academic freedom and shared governance.
It includes the suspension of professor and advisor of the Palestine Solidarity Committee Abdulkader Sinno, the cancellation of of Palestinian artist Samia Halaby's exhibition, its proposal to separate the Kinsey Institute from IU, not recognizing the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition and not publicly supportting Dr. Caitlin Bernard.
In a statement on its website, the Board of Trustees said Whitten has its full support. The statement also noted the difficulties of higher education today, and that Whitten’s IU 2030 plan is the roadmap to the university’s growth.
This Friday on Noon Edition, we will talk with experts about the significance of a no confidence vote and the future of higher education.
