Pamela Thorby, Recorder Virtuosa

Garden of Early Delights

Pamela Thorby is one of the world’s great players of the recorder. A founding member of the Palladian Ensemble, Thorby is an artist who has produced a number of fine solo recordings that have been acclaimed for their engaging musicianship and technical brilliance. Her 2008 Linn label release entitled “Garden of Early Delights” was a successful collaboration with harpist Andrew Lawrence King. Their performance of works from the late-Renaissance and early Baroque is beautiful and poetic.

Handel's Recorder Sonatas with Richard Egarr

Pamela Thorby’s 2004 Linn label release of Handel’s complete recorder sonatas can be simply described as intense. Joined by harpsichordist Richard Egarr, the duo’s performance is a high-energy tour of the composer’s most precious small-scale music. They bring a wonderfully new perspective to some of the recorder’s more classic repertoire.

Concertos with Ensemble Sonnerie

In 2002, Pamela Thorby released her first solo recording to great acclaim. Thorby was joined by Ensemble Sonnerie in what turned out to be a terrific partnership. Their performance of some of the most well-known concertos for the recorder defined a new benchmark. Thorby’s first commercial outing as a soloist proved, at the very least, to be auspicious.

Ammonite

Pamela Thorby’s latest release is yet another successful duo collaboration, but of a different kind. Entitled “Ammonite,” the recording is made up entirely of new compositions by her and composer Chris Wells, some created jointly. The music is intimate, engaging, and bespeaks of rich inspiration.

Pamela Thorby's latest recording, Ammonite, may be purchased from her website.
