Orlande de Lassus

Founded nearly four decades ago, Pomerium is one America’s finest vocal ensembles known for their critically-acclaimed performances of works from the Renaissance. Their latest recording on the Old Hall label is devoted exclusively to the music of Orlande de Lassus. Directed by Alexander Blachly, the ensemble delivers a wonderful performance, full of depth and sonority.

"Old World Christmas"

Christmas music of Middle Ages and Renaissance was the focus Pomerium’s 1997 Archiv label release, which included composers Praetorius, Ockeghem, and Dufay, among others. The recording is ravishing and meditative exploration of Christmastide music.

"Musica Vaticana"

True to its title, “Musica Vaticana,” Pomerium’s 1998 Glissando label release draws its program exclusively from the Vatican archives. Works were chosen from the Sistine Chapel’s choirbooks and concentrated on the first three decades of the 16th Century. In listening to this recording, I was particularly struck by the excellence of the performance, which also goes for the recordings heard so far. Pomerium isn’t just a fine vocal ensemble, they are genuinely world-class and they’re critical-acclaim is well-deserved.
