This week we celebrate the holidays with three albums from three different parts of the globe. The first is from the ensemble Early Music New York, directed by Frederick Renz. Entitled A Bohemian Christmas, it includes medieval music from Poland and Czechoslovakia.
Next is a new release from soprano Ellen Hargis and lutenist Paul O'Dette. The Christmas Album contains performances of works from 16th and 17th century England, France and Italy, and a bonus track of Patrick O'Brien's arrangement for flute and voice if Frank Loesser's "What are you doing New Year's Eve?"
Listen to the first track off of The Christmas Album, "Tous les Bourgeois de Châtres:"
And now for holiday music from a part of the globe often passed over in music history class. The San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble recently released a new CD called "La Noche Buena," or "The Good Night," referring to Christmas Eve, featuring early music from Latin America. Feliz Navidad, y buenas fiestas from Harmonia.
