Johann Georg Pisendel
Anton Steck is a baroque violinist with an impressive discography that exhibits his dual musical role as a virtuoso and an orchestra leader. Out of the many recordings he’s released, his collaboration on several projects with harpsichordist Christian Rieger is particularly fruitful.
Their 2004 CPO recording of sonatas by German baroque composer Johann Georg Pisendel shows both musicians to be of the highest caliber.
Not long after the Pisendel recording, Steck explored the sonatas of another German baroque composer, Heinrich Biber, performing works drawn from an important archive located in Kremsier, Czech Republic. Steck once again teamed up with Rieger, plus gambist Hille Perl and lutenist Lee Santana.
The music they make is nothing short of transcendent.
