Ensemble Musica Nova Records Music To The Virgin Mary

On our podcast this week, praise to a different kind of mother.

There are many around the world who call Mary, the mother of Jesus, their mother also. Praise and prayers have been directed to her almost since the beginning of the religion, in fact a cult to her was sanctioned all the way back in 431. People would pray to Mary to intercede on their behalf to Jesus – because who can say “no” to their mother. In the middle ages and Renaissance, when pictures of “Madonna and child” were springing up everywhere, a whole body of music developed around the worship of Mary also.
