The Hungaroton label catalog is filled with recordings of music that you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. One gem is a program of Quantz flute concertos with baroque flutist Benedek Csalog and Aura Musicale. Csalog's playing is as virtuosic as the ensemble's is magnetic.
The European Union Baroque Orchestra* has released on a handful of recordings, yet they've all been exceptional for their terrific performances. Their 1992 Channel Classics label CD entitled "Birds, Beasts, and Battles" is a favorite. Directed by Monica Huggett, the program is an electric romp through the music of Biber, Schmelzer, Muffat, and Vivaldi.
*Formerly known as the European Community Baroque Orchestra.
