Young@Heart: Never Too Old To Rock

yngthrtlove_0416.jpg

The Young@Heart Chorus, captured recently in performance.

The Young@Heart Chorus, comprising 25 singers and based in western Massachusetts, is unlike any ensemble you’ve ever seen. The minimum age for inclusion is 75. The average age is 86. And the song list comes entirely from the rock era.

A widely acclaimed documentary about Young@Heart in the late 2000s led to greater exposure, and more touring. That touring schedule soon will include a debut performance in Bloomington as part of Granfalloon. WFIU’s John Bailey speaks with Bob Cilman, who founded the chorus in 1982, along with Julia van Ijken, his relatively new and first-ever co-director, about how Young@Heart and its music have changed with time.
