Take a walk in Third Street Park one Thursday evening and you might find yourself following the sounds of music through the trees. Whether it's acoustic folk or acoustic blues, rock music or the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, you're probably hearing a Thursdays at Third Street concert.

"At all of our concert series, we try to have a variety of different musical genres. We like to just mix it up, so that we can appeal to everybody, and have a little something for everybody in the community." Kristy LeVert is Facility and Program Coordinator for the Community Events Area at the Bloomington City Department of Parks and Recreations. She's in charge of all the Parks Department arts programs: the Bryan Park Concert Series, Movies in the Park, A Fair of the Arts-which is the fine arts and crafts fair you see some Saturdays at the Farmers Market-and the concert series Thursdays at Third Street.
"Thursdays at Third Street will be new this year," LeVert explains. "Formerly it was the Friday Night Concert Series, but now we've moved it to Thursdays just because we found that Fridays there was so much to do in Bloomington that we really wanted to, instead of competing with all these other wonderful arts and musical activities in town, just offer a different night so people could come out more often and enjoy music in Bloomington."
The Musicians
Featured performers include Tom Roznowski, the Bloomington Community Band, the Lost Shoe String Band, Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen, and the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. It's a series that honors both the creativity of the Bloomington community and the loyalty of Bloomington audiences.
"One of the things I like the most," says LeVert, "is just the community aspect. It's such a fun thing to do as a community, and it's free, so it's not cost-prohibitive to anyone in the community. Everyone can come out and have a good time and enjoy some music-and enjoy the park. It's just a great thing to bring everyone together."
