Summer Band Concerts Lighten The Mood

IU Summer Band concerts

Every summer, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music puts on three band concerts on the lawn of the Musical Arts Center. The concerts set aside the chamber music and string quartets the school is known for in favor of the lighter classics.

Student musicians play marches, well-known classical pieces such as the Overture to Rossini's William Tell, and Broadway favorites to a crowd of music aficionados, students, and families.

After more than fifty years of summer band concerts, the Jacobs School of Music seems to have the formula down pat: the band pairs the popular music with a family-friendly program that only lasts an hour.
