Bloomington High School South's "Sounds of South" is presenting Lerner and Loewe's musical love story Brigadoon. During a school lunch hour senior Todd Baer and junior Jordan Goodmon were able to come to the phone for a brief WFIU interview.
Todd is a five show veteran with "Sounds of South. ""Actually, I got into a show in eighth grade, so I've had quite a bit of experience," he said. "I play Charlie Dalrymple. He's a resident of Brigadoon and on the night that it makes its magical appearance in the outside world, Charlie is all ready to get married. He has a lovely song that he sings to his bride to be…but because of the traditional superstition he sings it to her closed door. Things do work out, but there is a twist."
Although Jordan Goodman is a junior, she's also a five show vet' and actually had an earlier experience than Baer with "Sounds of South." "My sister was in show, so I got to play a little kid in The Music Man when I was just in sixth grade," she says. "My character, Fiona MacLaren actually falls in love with one of the fellows who sort of fall into Brigadoon. I really enjoy and focus on my singing, but with this opportunity to play a role with a little more depth, I've liked exploring the acting a bit more."
"Sounds of South" is directed by Gwen Witten. Their production of Lerner and Loewe's Brigadoon plays Saturdays October 17, 24 and 31, 2009. Chris Miller who leads the pit orchestra is also responsible for the staging and choreography.
