Plant Portraits of A.R. Valentien

Straddling that threshold between art and nature was Albert R. Valentien, a Cincinnati native who, from the age of nineteen, had specialized in floral decoration for the city's world-renowned Rookwood Pottery. Valentien's works are on display as part of "Plant Portraits: The California Legacy of A.R. Valentien."  WFIU's Yaël Ksander has more.

Plant Portraits is on view at the IU Art Museum through August 17th, in conjunction with the exhibition "Bloomington Town: Floral Images from the Indiana University Art Museum's Collection." The special program "Festival of Flowers" takes place at the museum from 2:30 to 4:30 this Sunday, August 10, featuring a reception, a flower arranging demonstration, and a gallery talk by Moya Andrews, who will also be signing her new book, Perennials Short and Tall."
