Crossroads Repertory Theatre (June 22- July 28) at Indiana State University in Terre Haute offers four pieces that seem to be as different from one another as can be. There's a ‘Reduced Shakespeare Company' take on Hollywood, the traditional family drama of On Golden Pond, a musical sequel to Peter Pan, and Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream.
But, Crossroads' artistic director Arthur Feinsod says they all fit under this summers' theme of ‘other places, other worlds.'
"The Completely Hollywood (Abridged) directed by Kristin Kundert-Gibbs, touches on many worlds of one-hundred-eighty-six of Hollywood's most popular movies," says Feinsod.
On Golden Pond directed by Dale McFadden is described by Feinsod as "the world of retirement, but at the same time a world of the connection of the generations, of father and daughter."
The Return of Neverland with book and lyrics by Andy Park and music by Scott Lamps will be directed by Feinsod. "I'm very proud to be directing the world premiere," he says. "It's a sequel to Peter Pan, the world of imagination. Wendy is grown up with a daughter of her own and the daughter is starting to have her own dreams about Neverland. The team has been coming to Terre Haute to workshop the piece and we're all very excited."
The final piece in the repertory is Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, certainly a very special world, but that's not special enough. "Director Chris Berchild has an additional twist," says Feinsod." He's set the play in the Paris of the 1890s, the Paris of Toulouse Lautrec and the Moulin Rouge."
