A Place For Film - The Voice Of The Midwest In Film

A futuristic city in Things to Come(1936)

Episode 57 - Exploring The Voice Of The Midwest In Film

On this week's episode, we invite local film producer and grad student Sean Connolly to talk about his background in the film industry, how his journey brought him to Indiana University, and his thoughts on creating a specific voice for filmmakers in Indiana and the Midwest, and how that can help in selling films from this region.

We start off with What Have You Seen Lately. Jason gives us some quick hit thoughts, and Andy launches into a sci-fi movie from the 1930's called Things to Come. We discuss it for quite awhile, and I don't know if we ever figured it out. Perhaps the message is that progress will always beget war. Sean throws a few picks at us as well.

We then get into a wide ranging discussion about film marketing, and what elements filmmakers can use to help their films get attention. We also spend some time discussing the Comic Book Rises series as well.

Listen in and enjoy!
