One of the leading Choral Ensembles in North America is the Phoenix Chorale, an ensemble directed by Charles Bruffy. This week we feature the Phoenix Chorale's Grammy nominated recording of titled "Spotless Rose." A recording which highlights contemporary compositions devoted to the Virgin Mary.
Charles Bruffy is also the conductor of the critically acclaimed Kansas City Chorale. With his work with these ensembles, he has successfully proved himself as a successor to the choral greats like Robert Shaw, Alice Parker and Moses Hogan. The sensitive performancs rendered by the Phoenix Chorale on Stephen Paulus' "Splendid Jewel" is a testament to his skill and that of his ensemble.
Our quick pick this week is from the 28-year-old piano prodigy, Jonathan Biss. This recording with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra of Mozart's Piano Concertos Numbers 21 and 22 is recently released on EMI Classics.
