Chad Rabinovitz is the Producing Artistic Director at the Bloomington Playwrights Project.
"When we decided to have a gala, we thought, ‘Hey, we're the edgy theatrical experience in town, and we should have not just a gala, but the best gala. "We didn't just hire a hall. We rented the entire Fountain Square."
A Passage Of Passports
Sonja Johnson has played a number of parts for the BPP over the years. Now she's the chair of the gala committee. "When people arrive, they'll be issued a passport. They'll have it stamped as they visit the Heartland Room, the Caribbean Room and the Parisian Room. Each area's theme will be realized with appetizers, drinks and entertainment."
Rabinovitz elaborates: "When people reach the top, it'll be time for the dinner and the entertainment. We're drawing on performances from the past by our roster of artists, and by community leaders as well. Mia Michaelsen, Katherine Rademacher from Bloomington South, Paul Daily from the John Waldron Arts Center, Glenn Kaufmann from the Herald Times and even Bloomington's mayor, Mark Kruzan, will be on hand for the festivities."
The Evening Ends With A Draw
There will be a drawing for prizes at the end of the dinner, says Johnson. "We're pretty excited about this. We've actually got a trip for two to San Francisco, complete with dinner at a five star restaurant and a stay at the Mariott. Announcing the winner will be a lovely way to wrap up the evening."
