Holiday Magic, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic '09

The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic presents "Holiday Magic" in performances at three and seven on Sunday December 13, 2009.

"One of this year's special features is a harp ensemble. I've worked with Indiana University's Susan MacDonald and we have a double quartet, eight harps with members of the Indiana University Harp Ensemble. They'll be featured by themselves and with the other ensembles as well" said the orchestra's Artistic Director and Conductor, David Bowden.

"I also love contrapuntal music and we have a terrific group of brass players. We'll be setting this up on opposite sides to play some Gabrieli pieces. But I don't want to leave out the strings. We're featuring them in a set of Christmas pieces arranged by Leroy Anderson."

"Of course voices are just the center of any Holiday concert and we have two groups. There's the Columbus Indiana Children's Choir led by Ruth Dwyer and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic adult choir that I direct. They'll be featured both separately and together. "

"And this year there's a special treat, it's by WFIU's own Cary Boyce. He's composed a setting of the traditional text, Lo, How a Rose ere Blooming. It's a lovely piece and we've promised Cary that we're going to try to make our performance just as beautiful as his vision."
