WFIU's Yaël Ksander caught up with Mitch Rice on Election Eve, November 4th 2008, when the familiar entertainer showed up at the courthouse square with a guitar and a fiddler friend in anticipation of the large crowds expected at the polling place that day. But crowds were not in evidence. Although nearly 70 percent of all registered voters in Monroe County cast ballots in the 2008 presidential electiona figure that is believed to be the highest participation ever in the county 44 percent of those voting cast their ballots before election day. But that didn't keep Mitch and Katie from playing a few time-honored tunes.
