There are several competitions it's expected a young composer will enter as they make their way in the musical world. And it's quite an honor to receive one of these highly sought-after awards…let alone the same one twice! But that's the case for our first guest. Clint Needham is a doctoral fellow in composition at the Jacobs School of Music who has just been honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Foundation with his second Morton Gould Young Concert Music Composer Award.
His 2008 Chamber Symphony drew inspirtation from the real world political climate of the last presidential election cycle. It depicts both the "turmoil of the previous eight years" and the nearly opposite personalities of the Democratic party's top candidates. WFIU's David Wood spoke with Needham in the WFIU studios.
