Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber (1644-1704), better known as plain old Heinrich Biber, was one of the most important composers of the late 17th century.
His compositional output has kept many baroque musicians in gigs, so when René Clemencic and his Clemencic Consort were deciding on music for trumpet and violin, there wasn't too much guesswork as to what they'd be recording.
On this CD from Oehms classics, the consort performs a set of sonatas and collection of suites, both composed for the Archbishop of Salzburg.
They also present a balletti for two trumpets and strings.
If you've never heard of Biber, or are only familiar with his Mystery Sonatas, the Clemencic Consort provides you an easy entrance into the full compositional output of this Baroque master.
Our quick pick this week is "The Powers of Heaven."
