Some species can run as fast as 5.6mph, believe it or not. Though plenty of species of these insects fly, the fastest running species have only vestigial or deformed wings. It looks like evolution has selected speedy running as their means of movement. The fastest of them are so fast that they travel about 170 times their body length per second.
If the average human could travel 170 times their own body length per second, they would be running about 340mph.
