First, take a trip to your local pet or garden store. You can either buy catnip seeds or buy baby plants. Buying a plant makes life easier because it is already strong.
One way to grow catnip is in a hanging basket. Hanging baskets work well because they are wind and cat resistant! You can also chose to grow catnip in a pot.
If you do plant seeds, make sure to use sterilized soil that is free of pesticides.
Directions:
- To plant your seeds, chose an appropriate container and moisten the soil.
- Next, create small indentations no deeper than 1/8 inch.
- Place the seeds in the indentations and cover with soil.
- Make sure to keep the plant well watered.
Make sure to keep your catnip in a place that gets sun so that the leaves can form on the plant. It is important to pinch off new leaves to encourage leaf production in the future otherwise your plant will look bare.
When it's time to harvest your catnip, all you have to do is cut off the amount your cat needs. Catnip is very difficult to kill so don't worry if you have a hungry cat!
