Livingston Assessment
Brad Kimmel discusses an assessment by public media consultant Tom Livingston, commissioned by the Provost, about the prospect of moving IU Radio-TV from under the Provost’s umbrella to The Media School. The assessment included interviews with a variety of staff and stakeholders connected with RTVS, The Media School, and Athletics. Meeting participants were engaged and candid. Expected this summer: a final report from Livingston, followed by a discussion and then a recommendation from the Provost.
CAB Working Groups
John Bailey reviews the array of working groups formed in the wake of the WFIU-WTIU CAB merger. Of the seven, four – the groups focusing on Development, Cross-Platform Content, News, and DEI issues – have remained dormant. Bailey recommends letting those groups to lie fallow, while concentrating more CAB personnel effort on the three remaining: Advocacy, Engagement, and Recruitment Strategy. Additionally, Bailey advocates for providing for new, ad hoc, project-based committees.
Engagement Update
Mary Ducette shares a calendar of all currently scheduled internal and external events, summarizes some highlights, and lobbies for deeper CAB involvement in events, not just via the Engagement working group, but also by soliciting suggestions and support for events from the CAB at large. John Bailey also suggests facilitating communication within the CAB between meetings with the creation of a private Facebook group.
IPBS Hall of Fame
John Bailey announces that nominations are open for the second annual class of the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations Hall of Fame. Inductees can include executives, donors, board members and other stakeholders, and on-air talent. Pam Davidson suggests the nomination of George Walker; Sally Gaskill seconds; and the CAB agrees that Radio-TV staff should proceed accordingly.
Other business
John Bailey pays tribute to longtime staff member Mark Chilla, who is leaving Radio-TV and Bloomington in June to take a position with Georgia Public Broadcasting.
