Terre Haute honors past, eyes future with city rebrand

Terre Haute’s new city logo and slogan is about honoring the past and shaping the future.

The new city logo is a yellow-and-blue depiction of the Vigo County Courthouse, crossroads, and the silhouette of a basketball player. The new slogan is “Meet Us at the Crossroads.”

According to the city, the rebrand has been in development for over a year.

Mayor Brandon Sakbun said at Thursday’s unveiling that the logo represents civic pride and the city’s history of sports and transportation. He also said rebranding is a way to show pride in local city services.

“I said this at the state of the city: regardless of the state or federal changes, we are still charged to build better neighborhoods,” he said. “We are still out there fixing sidewalks, taking down more condemned homes than ever before.”

The rebranding initiative was funded through the city budget’s civic promotions line.

Sakbun said the old city branding served it well, but it no longer captures the city’s current level of diversity and momentum.

The city also plans to launch a new website later this year. The website development is funded through casino/gaming revenue, Sakbun said. The website redesign will feature general city information, calendars, and improved digital access to government services.

The city’s seal will be used for formal, legal government business. The city’s new logo will be used for communications, signage, and events.
