Monroe County moved to the “orange” advisory on the state map last week, indicating higher levels of spread than its previous “yellow” ranking – where it had been since July. It was the last county in the state in yellow south of I-70.
After reporting 69 new cases Friday– which is the highest number of new daily cases since Jan. 20, the county confirmed 26 new positive cases Monday, 18 Tuesday, and 44 Wednesday.
The county confirmed no new deaths Wednesday, with the total number since the pandemic began remaining at 191.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate is 5.2 percent, down from 5.4 percent Tuesday and from Monday’s 5.6. The county has recorded 14,466 positive cases since the pandemic began.
Currently in District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 114 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s up from 107 Tuesday and from 111 Monday. Hospitalizations increased in the area from a low of 12 in July– but dropped last week from September’s more than eight-month high of 138. Tuesday was the lowest hospitalizations have been since Aug. 24.
Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 are up to 204 after reporting 200 the week previously and 181 before that.
The Monroe County Community School Corp. reported 12 COVID-19 cases in the district Monday and 12 again on Tuesday.
Indiana
The state recorded 3,936 cases Wednesday, up from 2,673 Tuesday, and 1,920 cases Monday. Last week, the state reported more than 4,000 cases but fewer than 5,000 on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Two weeks ago, the state reported 5,476 cases, which is the most confirmed in the state in a day since Jan. 8.
The Indiana Department of Health added 72 new COVID deaths to the total – bringing the total to 14,836 since the pandemic began. The state has reported 941,120 positive cases.
The state reported that 2,436 Hoosiers were hospitalized with the virus Wednesday, 2,477 Tuesday, and 2,432 Monday. Hospitalizations topped 2,000 three weeks ago for the first time since Jan. 24 and have not dipped below since. Last Monday marked the most hospitalizations since Jan. 7 when they exceeded 2,700.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate is 11 percent, down from 11.3 percent Tuesday, and 11.5 percent Monday. The positivity rate hit a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
Long-Term Care Facilities
The state reported no new positive cases among residents at long-term care facilities this week, after reporting 121 last week. The total number of positive cases since the pandemic began is 25,388.
Nine new resident deaths were confirmed this week, which happened between Aug. 6 and Sept. 20. Last week, the state confirmed 30 deaths. This brings the total to 6,409 since the pandemic began.
