Monroe County moved to the “orange” advisory on the state map Wednesday, indicating higher levels of spread than its previous “yellow” ranking – where the area had been since July. It was the last county in the state in yellow south of I-70.
Indiana health officials are reporting 40 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and 41 Tuesday in Monroe County. On Aug. 25, the county recorded 60 new cases, the highest number of new cases in a day since Feb. 3.
The county confirmed no new deaths Wednesday. The county’s total number since the pandemic began to 190.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate is 5.9 percent Tuesday, up from 5.6 percent Tuesday and 5.1 percent Monday. The county has recorded 14,186 positive cases since the pandemic began.
Currently, 118 persons are hospitalized with the virus in District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties. That’s down from 124 Tuesday and 134 Monday. Hospitalizations have increased in the area from a low of 12 in July. The area reached a more-than-eight-month high for COVID-19 hospitalizations last week.
The Monroe County Community School Corp. reported 10 new COVID-19 cases Sept. 14 and four in the district Sept. 13. Two of the cases Sept. 14 were from people not in an MCCSC building.
Indiana
The state recorded 4,733 new cases Wednesday, up from 3,580 Tuesday, and from 2,349 Monday. It’s lower than 5,476 recorded Friday, which is the most cases confirmed in the state in a day since Jan. 8.
The Indiana Department of Health confirmed 68 new deaths Wednesday which happened between August 21 and September 14. The state has confirmed a total of 14,550 deaths since the pandemic began.
The state also reported 918,230 positive cases since the pandemic began.
The state reported 2,527 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus Wednesday, down from 2,687 Tuesday, and from 2,634 Monday. Hospitalizations topped 2,000 three weeks ago for the first time since Jan. 24 and have not dipped below since then. Tuesday marks the most hospitalizations since Jan. 7 when they exceeded 2,700.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 11.8 percent Tuesday and remains there Wednesday. It’s up from 11.7 Monday. The positivity rate remained at 11.6 percent most of last week. The positivity rate hit a low of 1.9 percent June 22. Monroe County’s cases per 100,000 is up to 200 after reporting 181 last week.
Bartholomew County confirmed 49 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday.
The county also confirmed three new deaths, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 166.
Bartholomew County’s seven-day positivity rate is 16.2 percent, and 10,233 positive cases have been reported since the pandemic began.
The county is now in the “red” advisory on the state map, indicating higher levels of spread than its previous “orange” level, and is reporting 447 cases per 100,000 residents.
Long-Term Care Facilities
The state recorded 121 new positive cases among residents at long-term care facilities. The total number of positive cases since the pandemic began is more than 25,000.
Thirty new resident deaths were confirmed, which happened between Aug. 10 and Sept. 13. This brings the total to 6,403 since the pandemic began.
