On May 8, The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana released a statement that an immigration and enforcement removal operation took place in Evansville and Bloomington between April 29 and May 1.
The statement said three men were arrested and charged federally “with unlawfully reentering the United States after previously being deported following immigration proceedings.”
The statement listed: Martin Cortez-Lopez, Jaime Ortiz-Guzman and Amin Reynosa-Diaz.
Cortez-Lopez and Ortiz-Guzman were arrested in Bloomington on April 29 and May 1.
Amin Reynosa-Diaz was arrested in Evansville on April 29.
WFIU/WTIU News has not been able to confirm where they are being held.
Cortez-Lopez appeared in U.S. District Court last week and waived his right to a detention hearing for the charge of illegal re-Entry. This means he'll be detained until the time of his trial, which his attorney said will be in a couple of months.
Jaime Ortiz-Guzman faces charges in Monroe County for causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while intoxicated last year. He’s set to appear in Monroe County Court later this month. He does not have any other state or federal charges on record.
Monroe County GIS records show an address on South Rogers Street, purchased by Ortiz-Guzman in 2012.
