The city of Bloomington announced that its weekly Tuesday farmers market will open from 4-7 p.m. June 3 at Hopewell Commons. Previously the weekday market was held at Switchyard Park Pavilion and near Bloomingfoods.
The Tuesday farmers market is a smaller version of the city’s Saturday farmers market, offering another opportunity for vendors and shoppers.
The change of location uses the newly built Hopewell Commons facility at 332 W. University St. alongside the B-Line Trail. Farmers Market Coordinator Clarence Boone said he hopes the new location increases attendance.
“To us, it's more on the corridor of travel, east-west travel, and then there's a nice north, south travel corridor on Rogers,” Boone said.
The market offers fresh produce, food and beverages, artisans, and other vendors. It will also have live music every other Tuesday. The market also accepts payment from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Those who use SNAP will be able to obtain vouchers to use at the market.
Last year the Tuesday market had only about seven regular vendors. This season Boone hopes to change that.
“This year, we're hoping to eclipse all of that and get up to close to 20 vendors along that stretch of West University,” he said.
The Tuesday market will be open rain or shine, though delays or cancellations may occur for severe weather. There will be vehicle parking and bike racks available.
The Tuesday market is open until the last Tuesday of September.
