Puccini: La Bohème: Act III Quartet

La Bohème has long been a quintessential favorite among opera fans. The tender story of youthful love is both a musical gem and a go-to tearjerker for audiences all around the world. The story focuses on the lives of a group of young, struggling artists living in Paris. At the center of the story is the love of the poet Rodolfo and the seamstress Mimi, as well as the very tumultuous relationship of their friends Marcello and Musetta. In this selection from Act III of the opera (which takes place on a frigid winter's night), Rodolfo and Mimi are getting back together while Marcello and Musetta are once again breaking up. Puccini envisioned that the opera would be sung by younger singers, an idea that Australian film director Baz Luhrmann took to heart. In addition to directing several acclaimed films, he also directed a very popular production of La Bohème with young singers that popped up first at the Sydney Opera and then found its way New York as a highly-praised production on Broadway.
