Gershwin: Rhapsody In Blue

One of George Gershwin's crowning achievements was the Rhapsody in Blue. It was originally conceived as a work for piano and jazz band, but it is perhaps best known in the orchestrated version we just heard. Helping Gershwin bring this monumental work to the orchestra was American composer Ferde Grofé. Grofé, a composer known for his iconic American-themed works like his Grand Canyon, Niagra Falls, and Hollywood suites, orchestrated the Rhapsody, three different times between 1924 and 1942.
