Musical Kisses

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! We have a special Valentine's Day episode this week, as the Ether Game Brain Trust puckers up to explore some "Musical Kisses!"

Did you know...

  • The aria "Un Bacio Di Mano" ("A Kiss On The Hand") by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an "insertion aria," written for use in another composer's opera: Le gelosie fortunate by Pasquale Anfossi. Mozart later reused part of the melody from this aria for the first movement of his Jupiter Symphony!
  • The ballet The Fairy's Kiss by Igor Stravinsky was based on songs and piano pieces by Pyotr Ilyich Tchiakovsky, and written to commemorate 35 years after Tchaikovsky's death.
  • The final scene in Richard Strauss's Salome has the title character kissing the severed head of John the Baptist, before being killed herself!
  • The song "It's In His Kiss" (The Shoop Shoop Song) was made famous by Betty Everett, but first performed by Merry Clayton, a singer most known for performing the background vocals to "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones.
