Growing up we used to pick apples in the woods, but the pickins' were kind of slim. The apples were usually very small and super tart. I took my son apple picking at an orchard just miles from my home with much better results.
With this in mind, I'm thinking Apple Crisp is a perfect fall dessert. For those of you concerned about where your food comes from and being a "locavore," the local orchards and farmers market have plenty of apples right now!
Really Easy Apple Crisp
I used a super simple recipe because I didn't have a lot of time or ingredients on hand, but I can see myself adding nuts to this dish or perhaps some fresh berries next time.
Ingredients:
- 5-6 apples
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup uncooked oatmeal
- 1/3 cup butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- cinnamon
- 1/2 cup flour
- white sugar
Directions:
- Slice apples in baking dish (peeled or unpeeled).
- Sprinkle cinnamon and white sugar over apples.
- Mix remaining ingredients with a fork and sprinkle on apples.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
