Food So Fast You Don't Even Have To Stop And Pay

toll road

Fast food restaurants are on their way to becoming even faster.

With the same automatic billing system used by toll roads, iDriveThru will help drivers purchase fast food without ever reaching for their wallets. Five Staten Island Wendy's restaurants are testing iDriveThru.

The concept is similar to using E-ZPass to pay road tolls. Mounted to the car's windshield, E-ZPass allows toll stations to electronically deduct money from the driver's credit, debit or prepaid card. That way motorists don't need to carry cash or even stop at the pay station.

In 2001, the New York Metropolitan Transport Authority tested the use of E-ZPass at two McDonald's drive-thrus. The project was ultimately scrapped after the passes were stolen from vehicles to buy food.
