Designers from Yanko Designs have come up with a new way for shoppers to ensure they are picking the freshest fruit and veggies possible.
A special barcode sticker is slapped onto produce items, and over a few days, the barcode image disappears, indicating to shoppers and venders alike which items are getting too old for purchase.
But, as Treehugger.com points out, if consumers can't use their nose, eyes, and hands to pick out fresh produce, then they might have bigger problems to deal with.
The barcodes could also lead to more food waste as customers may be reluctant to buy produce with faded barcodes leading to more food being thrown out by retailers.
