Three cases of E. coli reported in Kentucky and Indiana have been linked to an Indiana orchard.
Using genetic fingerprinting, the Louisville Metro Health Department has confirmed that the cases are connected. Furthermore, all three people who fell ill visited Huber's Orchard and Winery in Borden, Ind., between September 20 and 28.
Huber's is cooperating with the investigation, and, according to a statement released October 9th, the Clark County Health Department found no connection to the farm in the outbreak.
The Louisville health department says the initial investigation was focused on food, but parents of those infected believe the infection could've been spread by animals.
The Indiana Board of Animal Health and Indiana State Health Department will continue investigating the case.
E. coli infection can cause stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever.
